Image In The Eye, Jessica Alba, plays the blind violinist Sydney Wells who has a cornea transplant that restores her sight and gives her the ability to see not only the living but the dead as well.

This is one of those films where the plot is promising, the previews enticing and the actual film is disappointing. The Eye has a plethora of confusing scenes that do nothing for the plot.  And Ms. Alba lacks the screen presence needed for a character in this type of a story.

Alessandro Nivola’s performance as Sydney’s rehabilitation counselor was very good. It is so good that I thought he was a complete jerk throughout the entire film.  His character gives rehabilitation counselors a bad name.  I kept waiting for Sydney to punch him out.  I wouldn’t want him to help me cross the street much less help me to adjust to the world around me.

The plot in this film has a lot of potential.  It just needs a better script and a stronger leading lady.

Recommendation: Not recommended

Warning: Contains scary images of an evil creature

Author’s Note:

Ms. Alba is a beautiful woman, but she is too thin.  If the camera adds 10 pounds, then she is really a toothpick.  Being under weight is just as bad as being overweight.  I wonder what we would look like if everyone on the planet were blind.  Putting health reasons aside, would we really care about our weight as much?
